The Lydian Dominant scale is a great way to sound a bit different on a Dominant 7th chord. These licks should get you started on this great scale!

Give any scale a major 3rd and a minor 7th, you'll get the dominant version of that scale. Today we'll talk about the Lydian Dominant scale.

The Lydian mode is one of my favorites. It brings a mysterious kind of feel to a major 7th chord and is often used to "open up" a musical piece.

The Lydian b7 scale is a great tool to sound exotic. As its name indicates, this mode is Lydian with a minor 7th. It will work on a 7th dominant chord (Root, Maj 3rd, 5th and minor 7th).
