  • Hey GMC!

This is a series dedicated to the djent movement and it will provide insight on the style and concepts behind it!

First of all – WHAT IS DJENT?

Djent is a heavy metal subgenre, inspired by the band Meshuggah (and I must add Devin Townsend, as Meshuggah only came with the heavy stuff, but all the melodic side came from Devin) and developed through the internet. The word "djent" is an onomatopoeia for a heavily palm-muted, distorted guitar chord. Typically, the word is used to refer to music that makes use of this sound, to the sound itself, or to the scene that revolves around it.

That being said, this lesson will help you develop the following things:

    - better rhythm chops and sense
    - creative riffing ideas in the time signatures stated above
    - getting you accustomed to the djent sound and feel.

Aside from Messuggah and Devin Townsend who are the founding fathers of this subgenre, I would definitely recommend Periphery, Tesseract, Animals as leaders, Chimp Spanner or Cloud Kicker!

Start djenting mates! Also, I want to remind you that we have awesome discussions going on in the forum on this topic: The Djent Thread
