I have to say this has improved my alternate picking and sweeping integration no end. Also has a great Pirate Core feeling to it - Alestorm would be proud (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6ehVX2LXBQ)!
Many Thanks Ian!
hehe it's true, great comparison! Running Wild or Sabaton are also bands that has this feeling.

I saw this lesson and finally gave sweep picking a try. Will have to give it a try after improving this technique enough to start with this. Very nice melody, medieval, maybe bit Blind Guardianish, but as a fan I can hear their music even if nothing is playing;)
hahaha brilliant thanks for the comment Marek!
Start slow and build up the speed, sounds cliched but nothing beats good old fashioned practice:) I have a sweep picking lesson available here at GMC. It is slightly faster than this but that's not the point. You can break etudes or lessons into smaller licks to work on technique.
Always enjoy what you're playing wheteher it be fast or slow.

Marek Rojewski18th November 2008Hmm after 5'th listen, I think it isn't so much Blind Guardianish, but power metalish for sure. Anyway that isn't important, what is important is that it sounds great:)

This is incredible! Ian, you make it look so easy. Are you primarily muting the strings with your right hand or more with your left hand? You look very relaxed when playing this.
Hi Jeff!
Thanks for the comment and question:)
I mute the strings mostly with my right hand...but not exclusively.
If you practice/play something enough you'll always be able to play relaxed!
