J-Pop J-Pop (Japanese Pop or Japanese Music) is nothing less that Pop but specific from Japan, that was born in the early 90's. Modern J-Pop has its roots on 60's music such as The Beatles. Ska is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s, and was the precursor to Rocksteady and Reggae. Ska combined elements of Caribbean Mento and Calypso with American Jazz and Rhythm and Blues. It is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the upbeat. This is a musical form first developed in Jamaica in the mid-late 60’s.
Whilst it is a term that is sometimes used to envelope and describe all kinds of Jamaican music it is essentially a separate entity that grew up at the same time as Ska and Rocksteady. The main difference between Reggae and these other two genres is that Reggae mainly focus’ on the 2nd and fourth beats in a Bar, the ‘Skank’ or Off-beat, but also with some kind of Rhythmic emphasis on the third beat.
While the origin of the term Death Metal is often argued, whether it was from the band name of Death, The fanzine called Death Metal started by Hellhammer (and later Celtic Frost) members, or the demo released by Possessed called Death Metal, There is always one underlying factor that cannot be argued, The pioneers themselves. The history of Thrash Metal and its roots can be traced back further than most would think, All the way back to 70's with bands like Black Sabbath, Accept, Judas Priest, Motorhead, and even Led Zeppelin.
